Robust Shortest Path Planning and Semicontractive Dynamic Programming

چکیده

In this paper we consider shortest path problems in a directed graph where the transitions between nodes are subject to uncertainty. We use a minimax formulation, where the objective is to guarantee that a special destination state is reached with a minimum cost path under the worst possible instance of the uncertainty. Problems of this type arise, among others, in planning and pursuit-evasion contexts, and in model predictive control. Our analysis makes use of the recently developed theory of abstract semicontractive dynamic programming models. We investigate questions of existence and uniqueness of solution of the optimality equation, existence of optimal paths, and the validity of various algorithms patterned after the classical methods of value and policy iteration, as well as a Dijkstra-like algorithm for problems with nonnegative arc lengths. † Dimitri Bertsekas is with the Dept. of Electr. Dynamic Multi Period Production Planning Problem with Semi Markovian Variable Cost (TECHNICAL NOTE)

This paper develops a method for solving the single product multi-period production-planning problem, in which the production and the inventory costs of each period arc concave and backlogging is not permitted. It is also assumed that the unit variable cost of the production evolves according to a continuous time Markov process. We prove that this production-planning problem can be Stated as a ...

Infinite-Space Shortest Path Problems and Semicontractive Dynamic Programming†

In this paper we consider deterministic and stochastic shortest path problems with an infinite, possibly uncountable, number of states. The objective is to reach or approach a special destination state through a minimum cost path. We use an optimal control problem formulation, under assumptions that parallel those for finite-node shortest path problems, i.e., there exists a path to the destinat...

Robust Planning with (L)RTDP

Stochastic Shortest Path problems (SSPs), a subclass of Markov Decision Problems (MDPs), can be efficiently dealt with using Real-Time Dynamic Programming (RTDP). Yet, MDP models are often uncertain (obtained through statistics or guessing). The usual approach is robust planning: searching for the best policy under the worst model. This paper shows how RTDP can be made robust in the common case...

ALGORITHMS FOR BIOBJECTIVE SHORTEST PATH PROBLEMS IN FUZZY NETWORKS

We consider biobjective shortest path problems in networks with fuzzy arc lengths. Considering the available studies for single objective shortest path problems in fuzzy networks, using a distance function for comparison of fuzzy numbers, we propose three approaches for solving the biobjective prob- lems. The rst and second approaches are extensions of the labeling method to solve the sing...
